Congratulations to Steep Hill Hawaii! They are the first medical cannabis testing laboratory given provisional certification to begin testing products for Hawai‘i’s eight dispensaries.

Today the State Department of Health Office of Health Care Assurance and State Laboratories Division issued an official press release detailing the provisional certification of Steep Hill Hawaii. Based on Oahu, Steep Hill Hawai‘i will be able to test dispensary products for their cannabinoid profile and any heavy metal, pesticide, solvent, moisture content, microbial contaminants, bacteria, or molds that may be present. Products that pass these tests will be available to sell by those dispensaries who have begun growing and have passed the final rounds of retail inspections from the Department of Health.

At least two other laboratories have submitted their applications and are in the process of pursuing provisional certification as well. You can learn more about the certification process and the meaning of provisional certification in this month’s July Act 230 Meeting Notes.
